Audi was founded in 1909 by August Horch after he left his first company, Horch. Since he could no longer use his own name, the son of his business partner Franz Fikentscher suggested its Latin translation: "Audi" (listen!). The four rings date from 1932, when Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer merged into Auto Union, one ring for each brand.
