Guide – How to check your car model before ordering pre-cut window tint film

Not sure which car model or body variant your vehicle has? That’s completely normal. Many cars are produced with the same body shape over several years, which can easily cause confusion when selecting the correct option.

Because pre-cut window tint film is sold without a right of return, it’s especially important to make sure your order is correct. On this page, we explain why the model year alone is not always enough, how to interpret the model year ranges in our shop – and how to easily verify the correct details.

Why isn’t the model year enough?

Many people rely on the car’s model year, for example 2012, but this is not always sufficient.

  • A body model can be produced over many years
  • The same model year can belong to different body generations
  • Model changes can occur in the middle of a year

This means that two cars from the same model year may have different body designs – and therefore different windows.

The body model is what matters

The body model – the actual shape of the car – determines fit and dimensions.

That’s why cars in our shop are not listed by exact model year, but instead by a year range during which the body was produced.

Example:

  • Body model: 2008–2016
  • Your car’s model year: 2012

👉 In this case, you should select 2008–2016, even if 2012 is not shown as a separate option in the menu.

This means your car has the same body shape as all models produced between 2008 and 2016.

Why aren’t individual years shown?

Displaying each model year separately would often be misleading and increase the risk of incorrect selections.

When the body design remains unchanged, a year range is used instead, clearly showing:

  • which years the body was produced
  • which cars share the same shape and dimensions

Once this is understood, choosing becomes much easier – even if the exact model year is not displayed.

If your model year falls within an overlapping range

In some cases, a model year may fall exactly on the boundary between two different body generations. In these situations, it’s especially important to determine whether your car has the older or the newer body design.

Example:

  • Body model 1: 2008–2012
  • Body model 2: 2012–2020
  • Your car’s model year: 2012

In such cases, it’s crucial to establish whether the car has the older or newer body shape.

How to determine which body your car has:

  • Search online for images of the older and the newer generation
  • Compare details such as:
    • front (headlights, grille)
    • rear (tail lights, shape)
    • side profile (lines, doors, windows)

The differences are often clear when comparing images side by side.

How to check your car – step by step

If you’re still unsure, we recommend checking your vehicle details in the official vehicle register.

Follow these steps:

  1. Click the link to the vehicle register
  2. Enter the car’s registration number
  3. Check the details for car model and body variant
  4. Compare this information with the body range shown in the shop (taking overlapping ranges into account)

The vehicle register provides official data and is the most reliable source.

Remember

  • You choose the body model – not the exact model year
  •  A range such as 2008–2016 means the same body was used throughout the entire period
  •  It’s perfectly correct to select a range even if your exact model year is not shown
  •  For overlapping ranges: always compare the older and newer generations

Still unsure?

If you’re still uncertain after checking the vehicle register and comparing images, you’re always welcome to contact us before proceeding. Feel free to email a few photos of the car, and we’ll help you choose the correct window tint film.
